Nobody saw them

Nobody saw them

Nobody saw when they came for him.
Must have been in the dead of night,
When cars respite along the pavements
And cats take proper care of careless mice.
Nobody saw them, that’s what they say.

The moon was full, the clouds were sparse.
The old church tower leaned against the sky.
There must have been some rain, the report says,
Once-an-hour bus took longer to come.
Nobody saw them. That’s all they say.

The milkman and paper boy
Drive past his house without a glance.
There is no talk of him at the coffee break.
It was a quiet night , the cats are full.
Nobody saw when and how.
